It appears the group goes into slumber and then they dream about Laguna and his friends, Kiros and Ward.
Laguna is a retired Army man, who was injured seriously in a battle, forcing him to turn in the gun. He's married to a lady named Raine, and takes care of a little girl named Ellone (who, in the future, is wanted by Sorceress Edea)... 
He turned in his gun for a pen however, and writes amazing stuff for a magazine. He's somehow related to Squall- and is the other focus of the storyline of FF8- just who is he, and why is Squall dreaming about him?
